What a year 2016 has been. As my fifth official year shooting weddings, this year did not disappoint! I know I’ve said it before, but I have the most amazing couples. I wouldn’t have had such a great year without them. At the end of 2015, my life changed forever when my (then) husband of eight years asked for a divorce. I was devastated to say the least, and I struggled through a lot of emotions and fear the first time I picked up my camera and headed to shoot a wedding again. I seriously couldn’t have asked for a better couple to re-instill my love for weddings than Nick and Samantha. They were the first of 14 weddings I would have in 2016 that reminded me why love is amazing.
I had so many firsts this year, starting with Nick and Samantha. They were the first couple to have a Blackhawks game streaming on a big screen during the reception! Other firsts include my worst nightmare as a wedding photographer – passing out from heat exhaustion in the middle of wedding portraits and having to be taken to the ER via ambulance (HUGE thanks to Nate Whinnery for saving the day and showing up to shoot the rest of the wedding festivities and to the couple for their care and concern of my well-being), a groom’s family flying in from another country (and seriously cracking me up), a wedding with TWO receptions, the best reception entertainment – including an amazing wedding slideshow featuring celebrities wishing the bride and groom well in Japanese with English subtitles, and wedding photography coverage I gave away free (to the most amazing couple BTW)!
I am honored and blessed to work with every couple that allows me to be a part of their big day. I cannot say it enough. Thank you to all of my couples, this year and in years past for allowing me to do what I love to do and for reminding me that happy endings do exists – I just haven’t had mine yet.
Happy New Year!
